The way this movie is shot brings you into the experience. You feel as though your trudging through the mud with Blake and Scofield. When they're in a gunfight, your there too. The tragedies that happen to them also happen to you. I left the theater in a state of bewilderment and awe as viewing a movie shot this way left me feeling as no other has in a long long time.

The main plot isn't about achieveing anything, just stopping one battle to save a bunch of troops and that's it
The cinematography is bad because the idiot director wanted to make a gimmicky one shot movi. It's the worse Roger Deakins film he ever made, he was constricted by this stupid imperative that doesn't film the grand scale of a war film. The protagonists are unlikeable, the plot is extremely dumb. The germans are evil and can't hit anyone despite shooting repeatedly. Really it comes off as a chauvinistic british movie and very anti german. It's embarrassing that after 100 years there's still so much bitterness.
The press will present this as an anti war film but in reality it's a opro-war film, makes it glamour and heroic, there isn't much blood. It gives a false impression of war and there is no moral in this film, they don't question why they're doing this, they're just good little soldier boys. AWFUL.
